RollerGirl Outtakes Fox Theatre Ceiling

Edward Scissorhands - Fox Theatre

I was very fortunate to be invited to shoot the first 30 minutes of Edward Scissorhands, now playing at the Fox Theatre through March 11th. The shooting conditions were tough but I managed to squeak out a few decent photos..

It was very dark in the theatre and I was on the end of my 300mm lens. I actually started out with my 24-70mm but soon realized that I wouldn't be able to get a tight shot unless I switched. Switching a lens in the dark is a tricky little number, you should try it. The 30 minutes went quickly. I managed to get off about 10 shots of Eduardo (as they refer to him in one of the scenes) and only a few of those were well lit.

I have to say, I didn't really notice that there was no speaking until about half way through the show. It's amazing to think about how much you're able to express and convey through dancing and body movements. I guess I should change that to say, it's amazing how much trained professionals are able to ...

Much thanks to Julie Giles for giving me the opportunity to go and to Julie Lally for showing me around. In addition to the meet and greet I got a special quick tour of the back stage. I'll definitely have to go back for another tour where I can take photos, it's pretty cool how many artists and performers have signed (or otherwise grafitti'd) the walls.

Anyway, run out and grab yourself a ticket before they are all sold out. Take the significant other out for a nice romantic date to the theatre, you'll be glad you did.

*edit - I should add that KC from St. Louis (I met her at the meet and greet) has great coverage of this event, so skip on over to her site, All The World's a Stage for details on this show or any other show really.

Great photos! So much better than my snapshot. ha! It was nice to meet you at the meet & greet. I tried to find your site yesterday, but couldn't remember how you told me that your name was spelled. Sorry. I should have written that down.

I really enjoyed the show! What an interesting way to tell this story. Thanks for adding a link to my blog entry about the performance. I'll go back and edit mine to include a link to these great photos!

Wow, Joe. I think you got some great shots here. Eddie's makeup was kind of wierd. It made him look like a mannequin. I wonder if that was the look they were going for. Good job!
